This 1997 BMW 540i (VIN WBADE5325VBV90119) is an early production example that ended up serving as a development car for Milan-based Racing Dynamics’ R48 performance package. Current mileage is listed at 90k, and the car appears to be clean in the single exterior photo provided. Running condition isn’t noted however, and the sellers says that the car has been in storage for the past four years. The E39 540i was a potent car in stock form, but the R48 package increased power substantially to near-M5 levels. Along with running a 4.8 stroker motor, the car’s suspension, brakes and exhaust have been upgraded, all of which is wrapped under a subtle bodykit.E39 540i was fast enough in factory form for BMW to not consider M5 development until competition from Mercedes forced it. Output for this R48 is comparable to that of a contemporary M5, with the stroked M62B44 now displacing 4.8 liters and developing 378 HP at 5600 RPM and 376 lb. ft. of torque at 3700 thanks to new pistons, a billet steel crankshaft, performance cams and more. Suspension is reinforced and uses custom valved dampers with progressive-rate springs, while four-piston Brembo brakes are noted for the front. Exhaust is a three-inch stainless design running high-flow cats and a Dinan muffler. There’s also a carbon fiber engine cover which extends over the cam cover This 540i was one of the first BMW E39 sedans to be imported into the United States. The original owner lived in Los Angeles and had a very close relationship with the owner of Racing Dynamics, Inc. Racing Dynamics was founded in 1980 by Federico Pavoncelli as an Italian tuning company specializing in BMW automobiles. Federico invited his friend to supply the 540i shown below to participate in a prototype experience. It would be the first E39 in the world to have the infamous R48 package applied to it. As this car was one of the early-build U.S. imports, it came from the factory with the 5-speed automatic transmission. One of the first modifications was to import a brand new 6-speed transmission from Germany and install it in the car. Selling used 528i comes with sport package with Rare 5 speed manual transmission. It has the BBS RC090 wheels. Engine, clutch, suspension, and transmission are solid. Clear title. Mobile 1 oil changes and i have service records. Everything works including factory alarm, electric sunroof, seat warmer, steering wheel warmer, power seats. Cruise control, telescopic steering wheel, 6 cd changer. Mileage just turned 180k miles and will go up slightly as i drive still drive it daily. Drives fine no issues. I have service records. As with a 20 years old car. There will be some normal wear and tear. Sold as is, so no warranty. The following are issues with the vehicle: The ac compressor is no good. The 2 rear windows do not work. The LCM(Light Control Module) needs to be replaced. It causes The high beam to be on. A common problem in this series. Used LCM costs 100 dollars on ebay. The wheel speed sensor also needs to be replaced. Left front panel has damage. No reserve! Solid vehicle. Have too many projects and this one needs to go. Being re-listed due to a non-paying bidder: Up for your consideration is a Super Clean, well maintained 1998 BMW 540i. It is in excellent condition for being 20 years old, it runs and drives excellent! Rare Aspen Silver exterior with Albergine leather heated seats, it's a rare color combination! It has minor door dings and rock chips concurrent with age. It has been regularly serviced throughout my ownership. I really hate to part with this car, it has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. I have a company vehicle, so I don't drive it much anymore. Due to an expanding family, I am relunctantly listing my poor man’s M5 for sale. I will do my best to describe it in detail, fully disclosing all of its flaws. I apologize for the bad photos, i will be uploading better, high quality ones as soon as the weather breaks here in West Virginia. 1999 BMW 540i M62TU 4.4 liter V8 mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. This combo makes just under 300hp and 315 ft. Lbs of torque, all while getting 18/27 mpg! This car has been BMW enthusiast owned by at least the last two owners and meticulously maintained by all of them including myself with years of receipts to prove it. The car runs and droves flawlessly, no leaks, smoke, noises, etc. Clutch feels great and so does the suspension. Cold weather package so it has heated seats and steering wheel and all work as they should. The factory stereo works as it should and sounds great. This car has NONE of the typical E39 symptoms. I.E all of the windows and sunroof work, all pixels work, both front seats work as they should (no one side reclining more than the other), no timing chain or vanos issues, there are only two dash lights on which are the check engine light and airbag light. The SES light is on due to one code which is attributed to the thermostat. It gets to operating temperature as it should and the heat works great. This is a common problem and can be fixed for around $100 in parts. The SRS light is on due to a bad seat belt buckle (they all work but apparently one has a bad sensor? I would give the interior of this car a 9/10 with only moderate wear to the front seats as seen in the pics. The exterior I would give an 8/10 due to typical light scratches on the back bumper and a few here and there, I can send detailed pics upon request. No dents and has never been wrecked according to the carfax. It has a brand new aftermarket E39 front bumper that was painted only 3 weeks ago. It also has aftermarket taillights that were installed just a few weeks ago. New brake pads and wear sensors, brand new radiator, oil change has less than 100 miles on it. Things to note: the two dash lights are on that were mentioned above, the emergency brake doesnt hold on hills, and the rear tires will need replaced soon. It has the resonator and muffler deleted and a 2.5” tailpipe ran in their place (sounds great, not too loud) but i do still have the original exhaust included in the sale. I have one master key and the keyless entry works like it should as well as the original valet key. I have this listed locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. 99 528i with a 530i engine (M54), needs a compressor. Runs idles and drives well. Needs ignition coils and wheel bearings soon also slight scratches in the rear. Have headliner out but in good condition along with all headliner parts. Has Dinan stage 2 programming, and Dinan headers and cold air intake, along with the free flow exhaust and semi new rear tires 8mm or so of tread left. Wheels are staggered 18 inch MPars.
