The BMW M Roadster was designed to be the performance version of the BMW Z3, and like all M cars there were significant differences between the two variants. The body of the Z3 M Roadster had a few differences compared to the standard Z3 models. These included front and rear bumpers, gills, boot and mirrors. Under the skin many of the components were beefed up... with the rear suspension being derived from the E30 M3 and the front suspension and brake system being taken from the E36 M3 Evo. Based on the E36 platform, the Z3 Roadster was considered the E36/7 platform. The M Roadster could run a wider track under the flared wheel arches as well as wider wheels and tires to try to tame the increased power. Standard tire sizes for the M Roadster is 225/45r17 at the front and 245/40r17 at the back. The low offset of the rear wheels allows plenty of flexibility to increase the rear tire width. A dual exhaust system fed each set of three cylinders to two dual tailpipes. The Z3 M roadster was the first BMW to feature this quad exhaust design which has since become a BMW M division signature. The interior had a different look to the standard Z3, including making the sport package M-version steering wheel standard on the M and including different instrumentation such as an oil temperature gauge. Finally, the car was available in M-specific colors which were not released for the regular Z3, at least in the early production years (not counting BMW's Individual program). Early cars featured ABS as standard. ASC traction and stability control also became standard equipment on US-market cars in 1999 and in 2001 M roadsters worldwide were upgraded to BMW's DSC traction control system. The Z3 was facelifted, but in common with other BMW M vehicles, the M roadster's appearance was not updated. In the 5 years from 1998 to 2002, approximately 15,000 M Roadsters were produced for both European and North American markets. This is compared to the 300,000 standard Z3s produced in the same time frame. This makes them very rare and highly desired by car and performance enthusiasts. 2002 BMW M3129k miles For sale is an rare color Laguna Seca Blue slick top car with nice options. I recognize that it needs work and am being upfront about all of this because I have no interest in BSing someone or wasting time trying to sell it. If the car was perfect, with this mileage, I’d have it posted for $17k. Options:Harmon Kardon AudioPDCRetrofitted HIDsFold out nav with reverse camera Highly desired SLICK top (no sunroof) The car is lightly modified with an agency power catback exhaust, carbon fiber mirror covers, carbon fiber diffuser, a built in radar, a clarion in dash radio (with nav and bluetooth), a prewired audio system with an almost new alpine 500.1 AMP, ACS roof and trunk spoilers, and black kidney grills. The engine is entirely stock. The car has BRAND NEW tires, rotors, and pads front and back as well as a very recent oil service (all done within the last FIVE miles). It also had the SMG pump replaced at 127k so the transmission shifts perfect and car drives great. Mechanically the car is tip top. The rod bearings were addressed by BMW under recall when it had about 10k on it. It pulls like a freight train and drives really well. The interior doesn’t have rips or tears but shows it’s wear. The seats could easily be redyed black and the interior would be near perfect. Again no rips, tears, or cracks. No dead pixels in the cluster, and no broken vents, cup holders, or trays. The audio system needs to be cleaned up. Someone spent the money on doing the radio right but didn’t care to route the wires for the system properly. It would take someone a few hours to clean up but all it’s missing is a sub box and you have a few grand in audio included with the car. The exterior is where the car needs the most attention. Aside from a little bit of rust starting to bubble on the right rear quarter there is none but the car does have a fair share of scratches and some typical pitting to the nose. The hood has clear coat issues but besides that I think a really good wet sand and buff could bring the car back a ton. It has ONE dent on the entire vehicle on the same quarter (right rear) that has the bubbling. My intentions were to paint the hood, quarter, and rear bumper then do a full paint correction but I have decided it’s not a practical daily with a car seat in back. I’ve been a BMW enthusiast my entire life and grew up on these cars. I will do my best to answer specific questions but honestly don’t know a ton on the history of the vehicle.
