New was $72000.00 To create the STS-V, Cadillac furnished its four-cam Northstar V-8 with an Eaton Roots-type supercharger to create the most powerful production Cadillac engine ever built to that date (prior to the CTS-V). Cadillac didn't just bolt the blower on. First its engineers redesigned every major component of the Northstar engine, e.g. forged steel crankshaft, reduced the displacement from 4.6 liters to 4.4 liters and lowered the compression ratio to 9.0 to 1. They engineered and patented a unique induction system. The air enters the supercharger from the rear, passes through the vanes from below, is cooled by a top-mounted intercooler and then does a complete 180 before entering the intake manifold. Its 10-12 pounds of boost raises horsepower to 469. Each STS-V engine was hand-built and 'blue-printed' by a single master engine builder who built "his" engine, just as Ferrari, Maserati, Aston-Martin and AMG Mercedes engines are built.
