This is the lowest priced 4th generation Spark on Ebay, and is cheaper than most 3rd generation 2013-15 models listed here. This auction is for a 2017 Chevy Spark 5-door hatchback finished in Kalamata Purple metallic with the Jet Black interior and geometric pattern grey and blue cloth upholstery. It’s best to view the listing on a desktop or laptop computer. A smartphone won’t give you the same details. The Chevy Spark has been sold globally since 1998 and in the USA since 2013 as the third generation version. It was totally redesigned and improved for the 2016 model year as the 4th generation with the code name M400, and this 2017 example continues with those improvements. In addition, this 2017 Spark is virtually identical to the brand new 2019 models currently on the showroom floor. The Chevy Spark is powered by a 98 horsepower 1.4 liter 4 cylinder engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output, excellent economy and inherent smoothness. Designed by the German carmaker Opel and code-named LV7, it features an aluminum engine block and cylinder head for light weight and excellent heat dissipation, 16 valves and dual overhead cams (DOHC) with variable valve timing for maximum power output at all engine speeds, hydraulic valve adjusters with low-friction roller followers that never need adjustment unlike some cars that need periodic valve adjustments, a steel timing chain that never needs maintenance unlike some other cars with rubber timing belts that need periodic replacements, drive by wire throttle for precise engine control and coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions. Turbocharged variants of this engine are found in numerous other Chevrolet models such as the Cruze, Malibu and Equinox. This engine has 15% more power and gets better gas mileage than the previous-generation car’s 84-hp 1.2-liter which had a heavier cast-iron block. The Spark engine has more power than it’s closest competitor, the Mitsubishi Mirage with 78 hp. The engine is mated to a Jatco CVT-7 automatic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that instead of having individual gears, has a steel belt between two variable diameter pulleys to transfer torque through a wide range of “gear” ratios. The CVT has a low starting “gear” ratio that provides brisk acceleration from a stoplight, while a high top “gear” ratio allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent fuel economy. In fact, at 60 mph, the engine is only turning at around 1,800 rpm, which is very low for such a small engine and which contributes to excellent gas mileage. Unlike most other CVTs on the market, the CVT-7 is a two-step unit, designed to provide improvements in fuel economy and performance when compared to a conventional CVT. The two-step gear ratio is controlled by the addition of the auxiliary portion of the transmission. This allows for using smaller pulleys, reducing the overall length by 10%, the weight by 13% and reducing friction loss by 30% because the oil isn’t being agitated as much. Rounding out the Spark are brakes, steering and suspension made to carve up twisting roads while still providing a smooth comfortable ride on pot marked city streets. Start off with a rigid chassis and unit body construction for a stiff foundation and a MacPherson strut front suspension. Add electric rack and pinion steering (EPS) and low profile tires for precise handling. For secure braking there are Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) and the Brake Assist System (BAS) that can sense panic stopping and automatically apply all available power brake boost instantly to potentially reduce stopping distances. For maximum control in all road conditions, the Traction Control System (TCS) regulates wheel spin on slippery road surfaces allowing you to drive up snow and ice covered hills with confidence. The StabiliTrak® electronic stability control system uses the components from the ABS system and the electronic throttle to regulate engine torque to enhance directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement. Hill Start Assist (HSA) keeps the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting out on a hill between the time you take your foot off the brake and press the accelerator. This feature keeps brake pressure applied up to 2 seconds until you press on the accelerator. With a total weight under 2,300 pounds (which is less than a Miata of the same year) it goes without saying that the Chevy Spark is one of the most fun small sedans to drive, and that it’s quicker, faster and handles better than most other cars in it’s class. The Spark may be a small car but it has numerous safety features to keep occupants secure. And if you practice any hypermiling techniques, you can get even higher figures, with some owners reporting breaking the 60 mpg mark. While the Chevy Spark is Chevrolet’s entry level car and one of the lowest priced vehicles new, a quick walk around the car reveals how it is one of the nicest small cars sold today. From its attractive design features incorporating elements from premium sedans, it looks handsome from any angle without being flashy. Up front, its smooth curved lines with a body colored bumper incorporating a lower air dam and a bi-level satin black honeycomb grille surrounded by clear lens headlights with jewel effect reflectors join a short hood with two character lines that give a muscular look. The headlights flow back into the fenders which also incorporate a sharp crease line along the sides of the car that continue rearward along the doors for a solid sculpted look. The front doors have body colored handles and the rears have semi-concealed vertical handles behind the window to add visual appeal. A steeply raked windshield meets the roof and goes rearward to a low profile shorty antenna adding a chic Euro touch. In the rear a roof-mounted spoiler manages airflow helping to keep the back window clean, and large sharp angled taillights surround the hatchback. Additional character lines in the rear bumper incorporate red reflectors for greater visibility. The exterior is beautiful to look at but interior design wasn’t left out. From the premium cloth geometric pattern upholstery, the clean layout of the instrument cluster, a center stack that puts touch-screen and climate control functions just a finger tip away and a center console with convenient storage, everything works and functions right. Chrome accents on the knobs and dials, rich gloss black and titanium trim on the center stack and shifter and stainless steel pedals give an upscale feel. Not only is the styling attractive, but all the textures have a rich feel and look and all the switchgear have a precise soft touch action. From the feel of the steering wheel in your hand, the graining pattern on the dash and door panels, or the layout of the knobs and switches on the dash, everything looks and feels like it came from a more expensive car. It has a great body with just the normal minor nicks, dings, scratches and other blemishes you would expect on a car of this mileage. The only items to note are a hairline crack in the left taillight and some stone chips on the lower rocker panels behind the front wheels. The paint itself is beautiful and shiny and this metallic shade of Kalamata Purple just about glows in the sunlight. It has been cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System, polished with Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze cleaner polish, topped off with Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic Wax and then sealed with Meguiar’s Ultimate Fast Finish for a long lasting brilliant high gloss shine. All the glass, moldings, trim and emblems are excellent. I checked the car out top to bottom and found no evidence that is was ever wrecked or that it even has had any previous paint or bodywork done to it. The rear bumper cover had some deep scratches and gouges but instead of repairing it and possibly having it peel or crack, I replaced it with a brand new OEM GM bumper cover. Remember, it’s hard enough to find a 30,000 mile vehicle that hasn’t had at least a fender-bender requiring a hood or fender to be replaced or repaired, let alone a car with over 100,000 miles on it. The interior is in good condition as well. It has nice upholstery, dashboard and door panels with no cracks, rips or tears, just some random scratches or scuffs on the hard plastic areas. The seats, mainly in the rear, could use a shampooing as they are a bit dirty. The cargo area doesn’t look like it was used much and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. Mechanically it runs and drives good too. The engine runs strong and feels smooth while idling, accelerating and throughout the cruising range and it starts instantly whether hot or cold. The CVT automatic transmission feels different from other geared transmissions if you’re not used to it. There are no actual shifts as the gear ratio continuously varies, but Chevy did program in a “simulated” shift between about 30 mph and 45 mph depending on how hard you are pressing on the accelerator, but the seamless acceleration is very smooth. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. It has two new Kumho Solus tires in the front and the rears should be good for another year or two. I put on two new factory wheel covers to replace scratched ones. The car has been fully checked out and serviced with over $1,500 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original GM, AC Delco or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. Overall this is a very sharp car that looks great in the Kalamata Purple color. That color was only available for 2 years so it’s fairly rare and you’re sure to get many questions and complements about it at the mall or supermarket parking lot from total strangers. If you don’t want attention, or if you are the least bit shy, don’t buy this car, I warn you. It’s a clean Carfax® one owner southern car from Virginia, which probably explains why it’s so clean. In fact, this is probably the cheapest 2017 model car you will find anywhere. And remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. The original price of this Spark was $15,000 back in 2017. Most cars in this class will depreciate $3,000 in the first year and $2,000 the next, so you can see what a good value this example is. Also when comparing prices, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on soon after getting it home. With this car you won’t have to spend $500-$1,000 on paint or bodywork to repair a dented fender or damaged bumper, you won’t have to spend $300-$400 for a new set of tires, you won’t have to spend $300-$400 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend $200-$300 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a tune-up and filters service and you won’t have to spend $300 on any upcoming scheduled maintenance. With many of the other listings on Ebay, you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery. If you are looking for a Chevy Spark in good condition at a low price, then this car is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at $100 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk losing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money, you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him.
