Vehicle Description Brutally powerful - but with all the right creature comforts - makes a car like this 1998 Dodge Viper GTS instantly attractive. And when you see how much fun this low-mileage supercar really is, it makes this 450 hp machine a truly irresistible deal. Dodge offered special colors every year with the Viper, but nothing is quite as iconic and fitting for a supercar like Viper Red. I mean come on, it's right there in the name, Dodge... made the choice a no-brainer. This special exotic has been enjoyed quite a bit in the last 21 years, so despite the low miles it does show some signs of use, but what healthy human being could resist taking this GTS to the limit at least every other time it hits the open road? The paint still has good luster that highlights all of the extra curves of the GTS coupe body, but again, imperfections can be found upon closer examination. But more than just the finish, this 1st generation Viper is true intimidation on wheels. The hood scoop & vents, the big rear spoiler, dual-trumpet rear exhaust, and a roof that bubbles up to accommodate racing helmets – this is a competition machine that barely looks legal enough for the streets. But big thanks to Dodge for meeting those DOT standards so it could be! Inside, it's all about the right equipment for a pure speed machine. The black leather bucket seats are a bold standout color (and really the only way to go with the Viper Red finish), and they keep you planted behind the wheel. Plus, there's no room for sliding around in an interior that completely envelops the driver, and your arm fits so that your favorite resting spot is right on top of the gearstick. A full gauge package is at eye level, and the black-on-white background readouts couldn't be simpler. There is room for a bit of luxury such as power windows, power locks, keyless entry, dual air bags, and cold air conditioning. The Pioneer AM/FM/CD/iPod compatible stereo powers a rear-mounted amplifier and the speakers installed throughout the cabin, and other than that upgrade and the T-handle shifter for the 6-speed manual, the interior is all-stock. This might be the only exotic from the era that can fit a golf bag out back, but the extra space really comes in handy, because this GTS is warmed over enough to be realistically used as a daily driver. If you're ready to be so bold... Tilt the large hood forward, and there's no mistaking the Viper's gorgeous red cast aluminum intake manifold and valve covers. And averaging just over 2,000 miles annually means everything else looks pretty crisp and clean, too. This is the car's original 8.0-liter V10, and it's what legends are made of when churning out a whopping 450 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque. You get complete control of this via six-speed overdrive manual transmission, power steering, and a fully independent suspension. The first-generation GTS coupes are often sought after, because all the years came with large four-wheel disc brakes and wonderful stopping prowess. While all of this keeps the Viper nicely planted on everything from the side roads to the racetrack, you are pure intimidation just standing still thanks to roar of the enhanced dual exhaust. The look is completed with 17-inch chrome five-spoke wheels, wrapped in fat 275/40/17 front and 335/35/17 performance radials. I'm selling my 1997 Dodge Viper GTS. It currently has 4,908 miles on it. Its a Blue with Silver striped car, it has been repainted and id rate the paint an 8/10.I was told when I purchased it, that it used to be a shop car for TNT Motorsports and was built for road racing. Up for sale is this beautiful 2nd Generation 1997 GTS! The paint is original (Viper Red) and in great shape for its age; original, no stripe car. Lower production than stripe vipers back in 1997. Hennessey carbine fiber wing, painted to match original Viper Red. Fully polished K27’s Kinesis Rims, in excellent shape. Engine and six speed transmission, in good condition, with no evidence of leaks or sweating. Engine had some internal work done back in 1997; a collaboration build by Hennessey and a shop in Illinois (aftermarket Cam, head work etc.). Car is very exciting to drive and sounds aggressive at idle due to its performance cam. Suspension is very clean with minimal road grime, A arm aluminum is very visible, not covered with a ton of black road dust or grime. Brakes have been up graded to 12 ½ inch (Bear Brakes) two peace disk all-round. AC blows cold, interior is mostly original, with the exception of an after market Momo sifter knob and Simpson 4-point racing harnesses. Driver side seat has a small rip on back rest, see pictures. Car history: The current owner is the 3rd owner and he purchased it from a car collection in Seattle. The car is currently in Orange County California. The car was built by Hennessey and a shop in Illinois back in 1997, and it is suspected that it was tracked (raced) at one point of its early life. When the current owner bought the car it had 12,000 miles on it. It now has 89,000 miles on it (all highway miles). This car was enjoyed by its current owner but was always maintained and tuned on a dino, at a local Southern California Viper garage. The Hennessey racing front clip was removed and replaced with the original for better practicality freeway driving. The aftermarket headers, throttle bodies, and exhaust system was removed and replaced with stock for California compliance. Additional information available upon request.
