If you're looking at this listing, you probably know all about these cars. They are perhaps the best value in modern exotic cars as you can get an Italian-built near-supercar with a full-blown Ferrari V8 under the hood and the ultra-rare REAL 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION at the rear of the car. This particular Spyder is extremely special because of that manual transmission. Only about 500 Spyders were produced without the troublesome CambioCorsa robotized manual transmission. That gearbox is the main reason for these cars having a less than stellar reputation. With the 6 speed fully manual transmission, these cars are bulletproof reliable. The Ferrari engines are fantastic. The exterior is finished in the STUNNING Rosso Mondiale paint. This Spyder has the very important Skyhook suspension option. Skyhook is an electronically controlled suspension system with two modes for sport or comfort, and the dampers are continually adjusted for changing road conditions and the positon of the car relative to them. It also has the upgraded factory BBS aluminum alloy sport wheels which are staggered 18" units wrapped in the proper Continental DWS tires. The interior of this Maserati is in very nice condition. It looks great. It smells new, and is very clean. It has GORGEOUS leather seats which are in great condition and are finished in Beige. The hand brake lever is leather-wrapped, as is the steering wheel. The paddles are leather faced with alcantara on the back. The car has an audio system which features several upgraded speakers, along with a CD Player in the center console. The previous owners of this car were definitely a non-smokers, and it includes an unused ash tray and unused cigar lighter. This Spyder has dual front airbags, as well as front side airbags. The trunk is larger than you'd expect for a small exotic convertible. The carpet floor mats are included and are in excellent condition. Absolutely everything works and works properly. The gauges and warning lights all function and no warning lights are illuminated. The interior is set off beautifully by Cuoio piping on the dash. The exterior of this Maserati is in stunning condition and has no flaws that I could find except for some very minor stone chips. It is Rosso Mondiale (Bright Red) in color. The paint has been protected with a Ceramic Coating which also makes it look incredible. This car looks freshly waxed at all times, and water just beads up and runs right off of it. The car has its original staggered 18 inch sport wheels which are in fantastic condition. They're a perfect fit for the car's appearance in my opinion. The exterior condition is also like-new. This car has only 55k miles and was not driven in the winter as far as we can tell. The canvas convertible top is in great condition and has been replaced. It goes down properly, and requires minor assistance going up (as is the case with the vast majority of these cars as they have aged). The tires are matching Continentals with good tread remaining, and the tires in the proper sizes for the front and rear. The brakes are in good shape and the car stops on a dime. The Ferrari V8 engine runs flawlessly and the 30k mile service was completed by us. The ultra-rare 6 speed manual transmission feels perfect. The Skyhook suspension operates perfectly and is perhaps the most expensive and sought-after option on these cars. It's a must have. This 2002 Maserati Spyder Cambiocorsa F1 (automatic and manual paddle-shift transmission) has just a little over 56,300 original miles! It is just 1 of a few hundred that were designated for the US for the inaugural year of the model (Original MSRP was over $90,000). Finished in the Grigio Touring Silver with dark blue interior and matching top, it just evokes the elegance of the brand! This includes the 4.2 liter Ferrari engine pushing nearly 400 horsepower. The best part about this car, better than the Alfa Romeo or Ferrari, is the exhaust note. It sounds brutal! People really are drawn to this car from the sound, we've received more compliments on this car than any other in our collection (and we used to have some pretty rare and significant vehicles!). It is the perfect weekend cruiser and will only increase in value as it nears collector status. This particular Spyder is loaded with a CD changer and navigation along with all of the standard options listed in the Wikipedia description of the model at the bottom of the listing. In good working order, it's running great and is driven regularly! We have been using it as a secondary car for about the past year and it has never let us down. The Maserati did recently have some maintenance work done, which included a new fuel pump and new battery and the parking brake was serviced. It has always been garage-kept and is maintained regularly. The interior is in pretty good shape for its age, no rips or tears in the seats, no major stains in the carpet and original floor mats. The radio and climate control work. The buttons and trim pieces suffer from the typical "sticky" Ferrari issue that most people interested in this vintage of Italian cars know well. The headlight switch is turned to the "on" position, but the switch portion has broken (we have the pieces). Using a wrench, you can turn them off, we just kept them in the "on" position so we wouldn't have to worry about changing it. The lights automatically turn off when you turn the key off. The cigarette lighter and housing were moved to the trunk by a previous owner to allow for the use of a battery tender. This has actually been a benefit for us over the winter, making it so easy to keep it charged and ready to go at any time out of our climate-controlled garage. Also, the plastic housing around the navigation CD drive in the center console is missing. This also does not come with the navigation CD. The CD changer is in the trunk and is complete. It powers on and sometimes connects to the radio, but is very finicky. The only other intermittent problem we have is that the right turn signal works about 30 percent of the time. The exterior of the car presents well for its age. There are a few scrapes on the rear bumper and the corner of the bumper and fender on the driver side as well as a few other marks here and there. It is missing its Maserati grill emblem, but honestly we liked the look of it better without it. The top is original and does show a wear spot on the driver side (see pictures). The top does go up and down, but does need some help to get the middle brace to fold properly. This is a typical problem of the Maserati and just involves pushing down on the top so that it can activate the boot door to close. The rear tires are less than a year old (Michelin Pilot Sport), but front tires show about 50 percent wear. I uploaded a video of the Maserati running and a walkaround. Significant changes from the prior 3200 GT engine were the larger displacement resulting from an increased cylinder bore diameter and the move to a naturally aspirated intake that replaced the twin-turbo approach Maserati had used for the previous 20 years, fundamentally because the powertrain is now Ferrari based. The engine operates at a compression ratio of 11.1:1 with the cylinders configured in a 90° V8. The cylinder bore diameter is 92 millimetres (3.62 in) and piston stroke length is 80 millimetres (3.15 in). The engine shares many of the design features of modern racing engines, including dry sump lubrication, a pump assembly located outside the crankcase, and four valves per cylinder. The 32-valve DOHC utilizes chain-driven, twin-overhead camshafts that provide valve actuation in less than 0.15 seconds, with the intake cams being controlled by variable valve timing. The crankcase and cylinder heads are made from an aluminum and silicon alloy, giving the engine a relatively light weight of 405 pounds (184 kg).[1] TransmissionEdit The manual transmission is a six-speed that was available either as a GT (manual stick shift) or CC (Cambiocorsa) using paddle shifters. The GT version utilizes a foot operated clutch, whereas the Cambiocorsa (Italian, meaning "race change") is an electrohydraulic manual transmission that uses a Formula One-type gearbox with hydraulic operation and electronic management operated by F1-style paddles behind the steering wheel, similar to the system used in Ferrari vehicles. The system allows the driver to choose between four different operating modes: Normal, Sport, Auto and Low Grip. Each of these programs is selected by means of console-mounted buttons, corresponding to different types of operating mode. By switching between the Normal and Sport modes, the driver can select between different electronic stability control settings and, if installed, different active suspension settings. The Normal mode provides a more comfortable ride, whereas the Sport mode stiffens up the suspension and provides fast gear shifts of around a quarter of a second.[26][29] Automatic mode electronically handles shifting of the transmission, but allows the driver to rapidly revert to manual using the F1-style paddles.The Low Grip, or Ice mode, allows for smooth starting and gear changes on snow and ice. This gives both the Coupé and Spyder a 48/52% weight distribution between the front and rear axles. Suspension The Maserati Coupé and Spyder both have a light alloy double wishbone suspension. The rear suspension is fitted with a toe-in regulator bar which enhances the precision of the drive train and provides balanced cornering. The front suspension layout incorporates "anti-dive" features to prevent nose-diving when braking. The suspension system is completed by front and rear anti-roll bars. Perhaps the most highly regarded option is a computer-controlled suspension damping system called "Skyhook". This adaptive damping system uses coil-over shock absorbers and a set of six accelerometers that continually monitor the movement of the wheels and car body and transmits this information to a control unit. The vehicle's computer analyzes this data and coordinates it with the Cambiocorsa transmission and other Maserati safety systems.
