The GM Super Sparkle 2 paint is simply jaw-dropping and with a built LS-based stroker motor inside what has turned out to be the ultimate version of the Trans Am, it's a big performer that more than delivers on the promises made by its outrageous bodywork. The Trans Am had it all: looks, handling, and horsepower, but there's nothing so good that it can't be made better. The swoopy Trans Am shape just begs for an upgrade, so this car was refinished using glittering GM Super Sparkle 2 paint, which gives it a silver glow that's deeper than most of the stuff you see on these cars today. And with a set of subtle blue ghost flames, the effect is simply jaw-dropping in person and you'll probably find yourself walking around the car over and over to watch the way the light plays over the car's curves. It's very cool. Underneath that paint there's unmarked sheetmetal and plastic and few custom touches like the Breathless Performance faired-in headlights that replace the original pop-ups. The chin spoiler and factory fascia includes round fog lamps and the nostrils up top feed a functional ram air system. Yes, it's outrageous, but it's not over-done. The interior is mostly stock, but the Pontiac designers got it right on the first try. Supportive gray leather buckets anchor the interior, and the hides are in excellent shape with only a few comfort marks on the driver's chair. The console, dashboard, and other trim bits are in very good condition with only a small crack on the dash on the passenger's side. As Pontiac's top-of-the-line, it's also loaded with A/C, power windows, locks, seats, and mirrors, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and a comprehensive gauge package, which now features white faced instruments. A slick aluminum shifter manages the 6-speed manual transmission and a pair of auxiliary gauges were added on the A-pillar. There's a new Sony stereo system in the center of the dash, along with some custom switchgear on the console to add to the high performance vibe. Add in the WS-6 logo floor mats, a neatly finished trunk with accessory mat, and the original T-top inserts, and you get a car that's ready for summer fun. This Trans Am isn't merely pretty. No, there's a custom-built 408 cubic inch LS2 living under the hood, transforming this into a serious threat on the street. Based on an LS2 block and filled with an Eagle forged stroker crank and rods, aluminum 11:1 pistons, and a set of L92 rectangle port heads, it's got the hardware inside to be reliable and powerful. The Comp Cams camshaft is radical enough to give it a nice lope but it has great street manners, and the fuel injection uses a GM Performance LS3 intake with 42-lb. hr. injectors and a Nick Williams 90 mm throttle body. On the dyno, it makes 538 horsepower and 472 pounds of torque. The RPM racing 6-speed manual transmission doesn't balk at the added horsepower running through it, and the suspension has been beefed up with upgraded suspension components tubular engine cradle, custom upper and lower control arms, and subframe connectors. Out back there's an aluminum drive shaft, Moser 12-bolt rear end with 35-spline axles and 4.10 gears, along with a set of upgraded disc brakes. Gorgeous Corvette Z06 alloy wheels are fitted all around, carrying staggered 18-inch Goodyear performance rubber. Seriously fast, totally sorted, and still great to look at, this Trans Am delivers everything you'd expect from Pontiac's flagship performance car. And at this price, it's also an amazing bargain. I bought this car new in 1997. Drove it for years in Florida, then California, brought it to Indiana and rarely drive it anymore. Nearly everything you can imagine has been replaced at least once. Within the last year the entire exhaust was replaced, new brakes and rotors front and rear, new radiator, new heater core, new water pump, and new power window motors and switches. Tires still have plenty of tread. Engine and transmission are STRONG and can spin the tires with little effort. AC compressor is probably bad as the AC does not blow cold, power antenna motor is not working, the radio works but the CD does not, and only half of the speakers still work. some of the clear coat is finally peeling, nothing lasts forever I guess. Other than that, it's a good, fun grocery-getter that can still turn heads!
