E-bay deleted my auction, so now it's a three day auction. CAR MUST SELL. Because of my situation, somebody is going to get a great deal on this car. I'm really kind of in love with it, I just can't bring it with me. I'll add additional pictures later, I just need to get the auction going now because we're leaving New York from JFK on Sunday. I'm happy to meet you at JFK this Sunday, or I can leave the car in long term parking. If it doesn't sell, I'm donating it. I bought this car three months ago from the original owner, an older guy who lived on Long Island and took the train to the city for work which is why the miles are so low. I'm from Seattle, working in New York for the International Rescue Committee in midtown. I couldn't afford a place in Manhattan big enough for my family, so we have been living in Beacon NY and needed an affordable car. It's actually a pretty cool car...I've really liked it. But I'm with my wife and 18 month old baby; the car isn't worth shipping to Seattle and I'm not driving across the country with an 18 month old.It only has 106K miles. I owned one of these with 190,000 miles and it seemed like a car with about 50K. Look online...106K miles isn't very much for a Saab 9-5 with the b235r engine. Saab really over built these things. The engine is very well built (people put huge turbos on these and get 600 horsepower out of them...the b235r engine is an extremely heavily built engine. You want this engine, not the newer junky GM echo tech engine in the newer Saabs). The paint is super thick, the sheet metal is very thick (why they're so safe) the leather/wood/carpets are of extremely good quality. It's just a really well built car. So the specifics:MECHANICAL: The car came with an extremely complete service history from the original owner, HUGE folder with all reciepts. He had everything done at Smithtown VW where he bought the car new in 2004. Overall, it's in great shape and doesn't need anything functional. Engine, transmission, brakes, tires, turbo, suspension are all in good working order. However, I'm a nerd and little things bother me. The lower motor/transmission mounts should be done...the engine would be smoother (not that it's not smooth, just not new Saab smooth). I did the upper engine mount (the expensive one) when I had a belt and the pullies replaced, but I didn't do the lowers. Also, the suspension has a few bushings that are worn out and a bit rattily/squeaky when going over bumps (handles great, just a little noisy over bumps). It also needs a rebuilt ABS control module...super common problem on these saabs, a connector gets lose and all the warning lights turn on and don't turn off. The part is $150-$350 to have rebuilt and is behind the battery. It would cost about $500 to get done at your mechanic, but if you look on YouTube it's a pretty easy thing to do yourself. I have no garage here and no tools so it's difficult for me to work on cars. PAINT: The former owner didn't take great care of the paint on this thing...it has tons of little scratches, like it's got every scratch on it since new and the paint was never polished out. This is actually good news because the paint has lots of thickness left for polishing since it's never been polished. The hood has a few scratched that are too big to polish out perfectly. I was planning on painting the hood, then color sanding the car (sanding with 1500 grit, then 3000 grit sandpaper) then polishing. The paint is so thick, none of the other scratches beyond the hood wouldn't go away. The car would look like new after color sanding. You could just touch up the paint on the hood then color sand and polish, but it would be tough to get it perfect. It's such a good looking car...I really wanted the black looking perfect. Interior: The leather is of really high quality. There are no holes or tears, and the beige is so pretty with the black paint and the burled wood dash. It doesn't look new but could be made to look new: it has cracks in the dye on the front seat lowers and the arm rest. I was going to use leatherique to renew the dye. The leatherique process does a deep cleaning, then you re-dye, sand, and buff the leather and it winds up looking like new. This would be a pretty minor job...like a few hours and $50 for the leatherique kit. It also needs that little piece of plastic that covers the shifter slot, and the door handle pulls inside front look warn. Otherwise, the interior could be made to be perfect. Stereo: Oh my gosh, the stereo in this thing is really nice. This must have been one of the nicest factory stereos in 2004. Rust: It does have two very small spots on rust on both sides at the very front and bottom part of the rear wheel wells. They would be easy to fix because the plastic rocker panel would come off, you just wire wheel the rust, bondo in the hole, paint it with matching paint (I ordered the paint...comes with the car of course). I just put two new Continental all season tires on the front about three weeks ago, the rears are in good shape (also Continentals). The rear passenger tire seems to have a slow leak...I've not investigated as to why. Miscellaneous: One of the keys needs a battery and I think one of the high-beam bulbs isn't working, but beyond that all windows, locks, power seats, sunroof, trunk...everything else on this car works. AC is ice cold. Twice it's been hard to start...no idea what that was about, but it's not done that in a while so might have been weird gas or something.Registration: The car is registered in Washington. In Washington, the plates stay with the car so the car will have plates on it when you pick it up. It has 2018 New York registration as well, but I think you'll need to get the ABS module fixed to be able to re-register it since it won't pass smog with the check engine light on. Not sure about this...I just had it registered in Washington because I thought we'd be driving it home, but that's kinda a silly idea with a toddler. Just a really great car that should provide someone an extremely good deal. I'd argue that a non-car person probably shouldn't buy this. It's not a new Toyota. It's a quirky 14 year-old Saab. They're great cars, but if you have to take it to a mechanic for every little thing it needs, it will quickly be more expensive than just going and getting a lease on something new. Don't buy it if you're not capable of a bit of DIY. DO NOT BID IF YOU'RE NOT BUYING. You win this auction, you own it. If you win and don't go through withe the auction, I promise I will hire a lawyer where ever it is you live to drag you into court. People bidding on stuff for fun with no intention of completing the auction has become a bit of a pet peeve of mine. This is a legal contract and I'll pay more than the car is worth to make sure you hold up your end of it. I'm being super, ridiculously honest with the car. There should be absolutely no surprises...I'm probably making the car sound worse than it is. It's a very nice, honest car that's a bit neglected but doesn't require that much to make it perfect. It will be left in long term parking at JFK. You can pick it up any time, but if you win the auction I expect you to pay regardless of when you pick it up. I have a 2003 Saab 9-5 with only 96k miles. It is in average shape with some paint fading due to sun damage. Runs and drives great.
