In 1996, Lotus launched the Esprit V8. The car received Lotus' own Type 918 V8 engine, which was an all-aluminium 90° DOHC 4 valves per cylinder with a flat-plane crankshaft and twin Garrett AiResearch T25/60 turbochargers but no Chargecooler. The...  transaxle used was the same Renault unit as earlier Esprits, but upgraded by Lotus racing driver Derek Bell with a much thicker single piece input shaft. Despite having a modified transaxle, the Type 918 engine was detuned from a potential 500 hp in race spec to 350 hp at 6500 rpm and 295 lb·ft of torque to prevent gearbox damage. Acceleration from 0–60 mph was achieved in just 4.4 seconds. After a 28-year production run, less than 11,000 Esprits were produced. In 2002, the Esprit received another styling update done by future Lotus Design head Russell Carr. Carr previously contributed to the Esprit S4 update in years past, revised the V8 Esprit with cosmetic changes including the same round taillight design as the Lotus Elise S2. An immaculate and highly original Esprit V8, this was the second to last year of production of the final iteration of the Lotus Esprit. Delivered new to Lotus of Minneapolis and used solely by the owner of the dealership. The Esprit was then sold to its second owner in Long Island, NY with just 900 miles. It has since been carefully used and always stored and maintained correctly regardless of use. This Esprit has recently had a full thorough detail, an A/C recharge and new fuel pumps and filters. This Esprit V8 is accompanied with all factory books, tools, original window sticker, supplements for Alpine radio and Cobra alarm system. 2001 Lotus Esprit V8 Twin Turbo. A desirable late model V8 Esprit in silver with black leather. The previous owner installed some performance upgrades, including a Quaife LSD, and 2002 style sport exhaust. The engine was also partially rebuilt in 2016, as was the differential (during the LSD installation). Other than these upgrades it is very much a factory original car. This Esprit is in excellent condition, with only small cosmetic flaws here and there. I would say it is a solid Hagerty #2 condition, meaning not Concours. There is a small crack in the bottom left corner of the windshield that looks old and appears to have been filled with glass repair epoxy. There is some scratched paint on the edge of the wheels. The driver's side window trim strip is a bit discolored. The shifter knob has some scratches. The silver paint is incredible and really accentuates the late model Esprit design details. In my opinion the pre-2002 Esprit V8s are the most beautiful iteration. The car comes with many parts receipts (mostly from JAE), including a new clutch and a Quaife LSD in 2013 and an engine rebuild in 2016. I don't see pistons on the rebuild parts receipts in 2016, so the rebuild might have just entailed new main and conrod bearings, along with gaskets and seals. The differential was also rebuilt when the LSD was installed. The LSD is an upgrade that I am told helps protect the transmission from failure. The exhaust is a very sporty (and loud) 2002 style, with little or no muffler. It does appear to retain the cats, and the factory 2001 style exhaust valence spoiler is included to make reverting to stock exhaust simple. I purchased the car from a Canadian seller earlier this year and imported it to the USA (It was sold new in California, so re-importing was easy). The car has a clean PA title in my name. While I think it is an incredible car and the ultimate Esprit, I'm finding it a bit out of place in my collection (too nice, too new). I am listing it here to see what offers I get and will either drive the car or pass it along. Please note that most of the photos are from the previous seller, the car has been in a climate controlled garage since. The first photo was taken when I received the car. If I get more serious about selling the car I will have it detailed and do a full set of beauty shots. The Esprit includes owners manuals, an extra key fob, spare tire, and tool kit. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black leather interior. The body and paint show very well. The original leather is nice and soft with no rips or tears. The 3.5L 32 valve 350 hp V8 runs excellent and pulls strong. The 5-speed manual transmission shifts very well. The steering brakes and suspension are all in good working order...  making this Lotus a pleasure to drive. We recently installed a new clutch. This Lotus was purchased for our private collection last year in California. The Esprit V8's are becoming very collectable and harder to find.
